Decibels - The Hood

2022

Organic cotton, fabric dye made from onion skin

In response to how trees absorb sound waves and quiet loud noise, how can we learn from the structure of tree bark to create a soft-surface object to lessen the negative impact of urban noise pollution on humans? Decibels - The Hood, is a hood inspired by the irregular texture of tree bark that absorbs and diffuses noise. By surrounding the head, this speculative, biomimicry project is designed to absorb external noise before it can reach the ears.

Made in collaboration with Cato Usher, Paul Pointet, Luke Sullivan and Sarah Del Buey.
